Getting Around

Pamporovo is served by two main airports, Plovdiv and the capital, Sofia.

Plovdiv airport is about 85km away and is currently served mainly by charter companies such as Balkan Holidays, but the national carrier Bulgaria Air also flies there from airports in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Sofia airport is 250km from Pamporovo and is served by many scheduled airlines such as British Airways and Bulgaria Air. Two budget airlines also fly from the UK to Sofia - Easyjet (Gatwick) and Wizzair (Luton).

Transfers can easily be arranged from both airports with companies such as Resorthoppa or Motoroads.

Alternatively, there are many car hire companies and rates are quite cheap. The route from Sofia to Plovdiv is on a motorway and the drive from Plovdiv to Pamporovo is straightforward.

In general, driving in Bulgaria is not a problem. On main roads signs are in English script as well as Bulgarian and while some road surfaces can be relatively poor quality there is little traffic.

The public bus service is surprisingly good and very cheap, both long distance and local. There are several services daily direct between Pamporovo and Sofia's central bus station at a cost of only 19 leva one way.

Around Pamporovo, there are roughly hourly services to both Plovdiv and the nearby town of Smolyan.
